Revitalizing the Structure of Roma Mediators in Local Government in Fier, Berat and Gjirokaster

During 1 October 2016 – 1 November 2017, IRCA has implemented the initiative “Revitalizing the Structure of Roma Mediators in Local Government in Fier, Berat and Gjirokaster”. This project was funded by the small grants of US Embassy in Tirana, Albania. From the project implementation, IRCA achieved :

  • 324 Roma children were facilitated to obtain free books delivered from Ministry of Education and Sports for elementary and secondary school;
  • 17 Roma students registered in professional and high school;
  • 5 Roma students assisted for the preparation of the documents to register in Universities with the state quotas;
  • 65 Roma people registered in Employment Offices in Fier, Berat and Gjirokastra;
  • 100 Roma people facilitated to prepare documents for health card;
  • 20 Roma children registered in civil registration office;
  • 50 Roma families helped to obtain lights contracts;
  • 30 Roma families facilitated to obtain water contracts;
  • 117 Roma families facilitated to apply for housing restoration and the municipalities started to intervene in the Roma houses;
  • 45 Roma women trained on child health care in collaboration with Health centre;
  • The two-days training were organized in Tirane during 3-4 February 2017. Participants in the training were 20 Roma youth coming from 3 regions (Fier, Berat, Gjirokastër);
  • 62 local trainings offered by Roma local mediators to civil society organizations, community groups and representatives of local government.
